The Potato Famine in Ireland contributes to people leaving in search of better opportunities, including colonizing the West. Irish immigrants find their way to the colonies aboard ships carrying trade goods, supplies and mail. Supplies are brought once a year to reduce the risk of disastrous wrecks.
